Michael McGuire named Virginia NASCAR Rookie Of The Year
Michael McGuire of Vinton, VA entered the 2011 racing season with a challenging task. The 14-year-old William Byrd Middle School student met his obstacles head on and had very good results.
Michael and the McGuire Racing Team tackled the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model Stock Car division at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, VA.
The young driver made a statement in the first race of the season by becoming the youngest Division I pole winner in the history of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at the age of fourteen.
He followed that up by becoming the youngest NASCAR Division I feature winner in June in a 100-lap race at Motor Mile Speedway.
McGuire finished the 2011 season as the only fourteen year old NASCAR division I Late Model feature winner in the United States and abroad. NASCAR also named Michael 2011 Rookie of the Year for the state of Virginia, Division I series.
The team wants to thank all of their sponsors and fans for a successful 2011 campaign. Michael and the team are working on plans for the 2012 season and will announce them as soon as they are final. Log on to www.michaelmcguire.com for the latest news concerning Michael and his racing endeavors.

Mechanical Woes Hamper
Michael McGuire at Motor Mile Speedway
Radford, VA-- Michael
McGuire has found a monkey on his back the
last few weeks in NASCAR Whelen All American
Series Late Model Stock Car racing at Motor
Mile Speedway and it is hanging on for dear
life.
The team unloaded at MMS on Saturday July
23rd and had great pre-race practice
sessions.
Michael would qualify in the top six for the
first of two 100-lap races. Things looked
good for a great night for the McGuire
Racing Team.
The car would start acting up early in the
race and Michael would report to the crew
that something did not feel right. The
driver was right in his diagnosis as the
rear end in the car would expire and force
the young driver to the pits for the race
and ultimately end his race night.
Michael and the team will work hard to be
ready for the next race at Motor Mile
Speedway on Saturday August 6th.

Promising Night Ends Early for Michael McGuire at Motor Mile Speedway
Radford,
VA—Michael McGuire and the McGuire Racing
Team had high hopes of a strong run at Motor
Mile Speedway on Saturday July 16th. Fate
had other plans.
The team was excited to have their primary
car back in the fold after having to repair
damage from a June 25th accident. The car
had tested well during the week and optimism
was high.
Michael was in the top five of both pre-race
practice sessions after a rain shower
delayed practice for about an hour.
Michael qualified third for the 150-lap
feature. He started on the outside pole
after two in a row winner Lee Pulliam had to
start sixth because of a track policy.
McGuire battled veteran LMSC driver Frank
Deiny in the early laps side by side.
Michael lead laps early before settling in
the top five and looked to be heading for a
top five finish.
Mechanical woes in the engine compartment
ended Michael’s night early near the one
third mark of the race and brought an end to
what had been an uplifting day for the team.
Both Michael and the team look forward to
twin 100-lap races at Motor Mile Speedway on
Saturday July 23rd.

McGuire
Breaks Record Again
Michael McGuire is now
the youngest driver ever to win
a NASCAR Late
Model Stock Car race
at Motor Mile Speedway
June 4th 2011

Credit: JW Martin, Motor Mile Speedway
In a storybook ending, Michael McGuire
becomes youngest-ever winner of a
NASCAR-sanctioned Late Model race at Motor
Mile Speedway.
A throng of race fans were in disbelief as
they encircled the race winner of the second
Shelor Motor Mile Dodge/Star Country Twin
100.
Michael McGuire couldn't believe it, either.
McGuire didn't expect pre-race favorite Lee
Pulliam to exit the race with rear-end
trouble on lap 4. He didn't expect contact
from Davin Scites in the last corner of the
last lap, and the door-banging race that
ensued. And, as he admitted, "down-right
honest, we didn't expect to win."
Standing amongst the crowd, a six year old
boy gazed wide-eyed up at McGuire.
"How old are you?" asked the young fan.
"Fourteen," was the reply.
Runner-up Scites had questions, too, after
mistakenly referring to Michael as Tony---
McGuire's uncle who compiled a beaming
record at the Radford oval during his racing
career.
"Tony?" Scites misspoke," I was thinking of
his uncle---I raced with his uncle for
years---Michael did a heckuva job."
Tony was back in victory lane Saturday
night, as was Michael's father, Tim, the
1988 Late Model track champion. For the
first time, both racers walked into the
winner's circle.
For Michael, his surreal first win came
accompanied with unprecedented accolades, as
the 14-year-old became the youngest-ever
winner of a NASCAR-sanctioned Late Model
race at Motor Mile Speedway.
After a lengthy caution and a brief red flag
period, racing resumed on lap 25 with
pole-sitter Frank Deiny, Jr. at the point.
Slight contact propelled McGuire past Scites
for second on 36, and four laps later
McGuire overtook Deiny for the top spot with
Scites in tow.
Deiny faded in the laps to come as the
battle for first became a two-car showcase
of stellar side-by-side racing. Scites' bid
for first began on lap 43, and lasted the
remainder of the contest.
"I was getting really nervous when Davin {Scites}
got behind me. Man, we were racing each
other really hard," said McGuire. "Those
last few laps, I was cringing so hard."
McGuire fended off Scites through three
subsequent cautions, the latter of which
staged a 16-lap dash to the checkers. As the
laps began to wane, the pressure on McGuire
mounted. Scites assault led to contact on at
least three occasions, as the veteran
searched for an avenue around McGuire's No..
22.
Ultimately,
Scites would use every trick at his
disposal---and then he used a right-front
fender.
The bout for first reached a climax as the
frontrunners rounded turn three on the final
circuit when Scites planted the nose of the
No. 06 into the rookie stripes on McGuire's
back bumper.
"I had to rough him up; I had to go for it.
I knew the opportunity was there with
{Pulliam} dropping out. When that happens,
you've got to capitalize on it, and Michael
did," Scites said. "Man, that kid's good."
The bump-and-run sent McGuire skating up the
banking.
The
front stretch transformed into a drag strip
as the top two lunged for the finish line,
exchanging doughnuts and trading paint in a
fantastic photo-finish. The official margin
of victory was .142 seconds.
Kris Bowen equaled his best performance of
the year with a third place showing, and
Josh Berry and Deiny rounded out the top
five, respectively.

McGuire has enjoyed a record-setting career.
Among his achievements, the Vinton, Va.,
native boasts five previous Late Model wins,
coming at Franklin County Speedway and
Orange County Speedway, where he holds the
record for youngest Late Model feature
winner. Neither track is NASCAR-sanctioned.
McGuire didn't hesitate when asked where his
latest history-making triumph ranks.
"It ranks first...right at the top."

McGuire and Morris Battle as McGuire Vaults to Third in the Nascar LMSC Standings at MMS on May 23rd 2011

|
Young Michael
McGuire of Vinton, VA got
another first time experience in
his young racing career. After
qualifying in the third
position, Michael battled pole
sitter Phillip Morris in the
early laps of the race. Morris,
a former National champion and
seven time track champion was
making his first start of the
season at Motor Mile Speedway.
Phillip was able to hold the
lead until lap seventy when he
was overtaken by race winner Lee
Pulliam. Michael held on to
finish in the sixth position
after earlier contact with
Morris left his front end in
need of repair.
After the
completion of race one, the top
six finishers drew for starting
positions for the second twin
100 lap race. Morris drew the
pole and Michael the second
starting position. The two
battled early before Frank Deiny
Jr. moved past Michael for the
second position and began
pressuring Morris. These
challenges for the lead were
only temporary, Lee Pulliam
worked his way through the field
and overtook Morris for the lead
on lap sixty six. Lee held on
for his sixth win of the year.
Rounding out the top five were
Phillip Morris, Frank Deiny Jr.,
Davin Scites and Michael
McGuire. Michael left Motor Mile
Speedway Saturday night in the
third position in the season
point standings for the track
championship.

(Right Click for Zoom Options)
Radford, VA--- Michael McGuire of Vinton, VA made his first ever start in a NASCAR sanctioned Late Model Stock Car race a memorable one on Sunday April 3, 2011.

Michael and the McGuire
Racing Team would have to wait a day to race after snow and rain
showers forced track officials to abandon their Saturday race
scheduled.
Sunday’s weather was
beautiful for racing. Michael and Davin Scites lead the field to the
green flag from the front row. The third generation McGuire racer
jumped to the lead in the Wood’s Towing and Transportation, Bill’s
Auto Sales, Hannabass & Rowe, Autism Speaks, Townsend Oliver
Racing Products, Clark’s Race Engines Chevrolet Impala
SS.
The young driving talent
led the first 28 laps of the 150-lap affair before surrendering the
lead to Lee Pulliam. Michael reported a tight condition of the
chassis to the crew.
The chassis tightness
caused Michael to slide back to fifth during the race. A spirited
battled with Richard Boswell late in the race helped Michael to a
top five finish.
The crew and driver were thrilled with a top five finish in their first NASCAR LMSC start. Hard work will be the team’s charge as they get ready for race number two at Motor Mile Speedway on Saturday afternoon April 16th at 4:00pm.

Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, NC
Saturday October 9th and captured his first
Late Model Stock Car win at the ultra-fast
3/8ths mile paved oval.
The win in LMSC at Orange County comes on
the heels of Michael’s first NASCAR
sanctioned win at Motor Mile Speedway in
Radford, VA in Limited Sportsman action on
September 11th.
The fourteen year old driver, who captured

Michael McGuire Wins First Nascar Sanctioned Race!!

Many Firsts for Michael McGuire at Motor Mile Speedway
Radford, VA—Michael McGuire of Vinton, VA pulled off quite a few things he had never accomplished at Motor Mile Speedway on Sunday September 12, 2010.
Michael was quickest in both pre-race practice sessions for the Limited Sportsman division during the afternoon. The team had high hopes heading into the time trial session.
The William Byrd Middle School 8th grader wheeled his Strutmasters.com, Wood’s Towing and Recovery, Bill’s Auto Sales Chevrolet Impala SS to the top of the podium in qualifying for his first NASCAR sanctioned pole award.
Michael took control of the 50-lap race when the green flag dropped. He established leads after every caution that slowed the race and showed veteran poise behind the wheel. He went on to capture his first NASCAR sanctioned win of his career.
McGuire at the young age of 14 also etched his name in the record books as the youngest driver to win a feature event in the 22 year history of Motor Mile Speedway.
“The crew put a great car under me.” McGuire explained. “We have worked very hard to find the right set up for Motor Mile and it all meshed for us today.”
